Recently Carl Shumacher who served the Rotary Club of Tryon as President for two different terms pinned incoming President Bill Miller as he begins his year of service to the local club. Bill is a native North Carolinian and retired as Superintendent of the Polk County School System in July. He has given 30 years to educating young people as coach, principal and as Superintendent. In attendance to celebrate the new leadership was former District 7670 Assistant Governor Dan Hodges and his wife Donna. President Jim Wright (2015-2016) conducted the meeting until President Bill was installed and pinned. Then President Jim assumed “the best job in Rotary” – Immediate Past President. He will receive a Past President’s pin, plaque and badge all signifying and honoring his service to the RCOT for the past year.

In his comments to the Club as President, Bill reminded Rotarians that the 2016-2017 Theme is “Rotary Serving Humanity.” President Bill’s personal goal is to help the club think strategically to help the club survive as it is a vital and necessary source of community leadership. He thinks of leading the club in a unique opportunity to position the Rotary Club of Tryon to survive and move forward in the future.
