The Rotary Club of Tryon was entertained by the Over The Mountain String Band as part of their June 6th meeting. Glen LeFeber, Rotarian and band member, brought the group to the Club meeting to share their passion for Old Timey music. Band members played many of the traditional instruments we would expect to see at an old time music performance, mandolin, guitar, banjo, washtub bass and fiddles, but the group also included a Celtic flute and a concertina.
Many of the club members believed this music originated in the land that would eventually become the United States of America, but during the performance we learned that many of these songs had a much older heritage. As the band introduced each song, the Rotarians learned the original versions of many of the songs could be traced back to their European origins.
