“Youth Exchange”

MISSION The Mission of the Rotary Club of Tryon is to implement, to the best of our ability, Rotary’s objective – “To encourage and foster the idea of SERVICE as a basis of worthy enterprise”. We will do this by utilizing the resources of Rotary International and the Rotary tradition of association, acquaintance, ethics and concern for the local and world community. We will seek to earn favorable recognition and confidence from all segments of the community for the benefits Rotary can and does provide.

OBJECTIVES Build and maintain club involvement in each of Rotary’s four avenues of service; club, vocational, community and international.* Have clearly defined action plans and goals for each committee.* Have every club member assigned as an active participant in a least one committee function.

CLUB PROJECTSMembers actively participate in one or more of a wide range of club projects:* Scholarships – Academic and vocational scholarships are offered at our local high school.* Community Chorus – This community organization presents two concerts each year. Income from ticket sales support Rotary Scholarships. * Reading is Fundamental – A program to encourage reading by school children, grades Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5.

YOUTH EXCHANGE – Started in 1976, the Jim Black Exchange Program sends two students from our area to Pirmasens Germany, who then receive two students from Pirmasens.* Leadership Camp – Each year, the club sends  students from Polk County High School to a Rotary Leadership Camp in Brevard, NC at Brevard College.

INTERACT – Interact Clubs are Rotary sponsored service clubs at the high school and middle school level. Tryon Rotary sponsors the Interact Club at Polk County High School.* Career Fair – Each year the club sponsors Career Fair at Polk County High School.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE – The club seeks and participates in “Matching Gift” projects with District 7670 and RI. In 2008 an orphanage in St. Miguel de Allende, Mexico was assisted by our club.*  Each year we donate to Polio Plus — a world-wide effort to eradicate Polio.  Rotary has been involved in this effort since 1985.
