Rotary members undertake service projects and activities to support the people and organizations that make Polk County their home.??
The early 1900’s saw the beginning of many civic organizations:? Rotary – 1905, Kiwanis – 1915, and Toastmasters – 1924.? Each of these organizations works to improve their community through building stronger relationships.?
Rotary International, now 1.2 million-members strong,? started with the vision of one man?Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary?s name came from the group?s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.
