Recently the Board of Directors of the Community Chorus committed to provide $10,000 to the Rotary Club of Tryon Foundation for their Rotary Scholarship program. Since the founding of the Chorus in 1973 by the Rotary Club of Tryon Club, concerts in the spring and at Christmas have been presented annually with all proceeds earmarked for local youth scholarships ….until the pandemic.
Chorus president Linda Lee Reynolds indicated that without two concerts, and budgeted expenses being mostly eliminated, the Chorus board felt it important to assist the scholarship program whereas the Rotary club had lost one of its largest fundraisers. Interestingly, the mission of the Chorus is; to provide opportunities for persons with interest in choral music to perform publicly; to promote musical education in the community, and; to present concerts exclusively for the support of the Rotary Club of Tryon Scholarship Fund.
Reynolds was also pleased to report that the prospects for a 2021 Christmas concert were improving and the board is in process of making preparations. Singers, including Chorus members and Chorus “wannabees”, are urged to pencil in Monday evening rehearsals hopefully beginning October 11.
Community Chorus President Linda Lee Reynolds and Chorus board member James Bryan present the check to Charles McKeller, Chair of the Rotary Club of Tryon Foundation for the Scholarship Fund.
