Community Chorus – Winter Concert

A 70 degree day in January isn’t the normal time for a Christmas concert, but it’s much better than the 12 inches of snow we had on the original day for the Community Chorus concert in December.

The more than 50 members of the Community Chorus shared their Christmas Around the World performance with an eager audience in the Polk County High School auditorium. The Chorus was directed by Dr. Susan Lyle and accompanied by Pam McNeil during this winter concert. Joining the Chorus this year were the Cathedral Brass and Carolina Carolers.

The performance started with the Community Chorus sharing six selections for Handel’s Messiah. The Messiah is an English-language oratorio composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel, with a scriptural text compiled by Charles Jennens from the King James Bible, and from the Psalms included with the Book of Common Prayer. This section of the performance was followed by the performance of Christmas Favorites from around the world. Each county and its Christmas song was introduced with a narrative by Ed Harrelson.

Proceeds from the Community Chorus concerts support the Rotary Club of Tryon Foundation’s Scholarship Fund for high school students in Polk County.

The Community Chorus will hold their Spring Concert on April 28, 2019.
