At the June 7th meeting of the Rotary Club of Tryon, a program on the history of the Lanier Library Association was presented by Library Director Amber Keeran. Lanier Library was founded in 1889 and is named for Sidney Lanier, a musician, poet, and author. Although Lanier lived in Georgia, he visited this area and died near Lynn in 1881. The first books in the Lanier Library collection were donated by his widow. The Lanier Library is a community library association and one of only sixteen solely membership libraries left in the country. Ms. Keeran was introduced by Club President Ken Shull.
