PCHS Interact Club

Eight members of the Polk County High School Interact Club attended this week’s Rotary Club of Tryon meeting with their sponsor Mrs. Lori Connet.  The Interact Club is a Rotary sponsored organization that brings together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self.  Interact clubs organize at least two projects every year, one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding.  These students were attending the meeting as a Thank You from the Club for their help as ushers during the recent Community Chorus concert.  These students, along with other students from PCHS, will also be participating in the Rise Against Hunger event on May 19.

Rise Against Hunger?s meal packaging program is a volunteer-based initiative that coordinates the assembly-line packaging of highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables, and 23 essential vitamins and minerals.  The program was created to give dedicated individuals and organizations ? from businesses to civic clubs ? the opportunity to participate in a hands-on international hunger relief program and to become educated, engaged advocates for the world?s hungry.  The events also give volunteers hands-on experience in leadership development, team-building, relationship-building, creative problem-solving, and goal-setting and achievement.
