The Rotary Club of Tryon is proud to support CART, Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust. CART is dedicated to raising funds to provide ?seed? money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer?s disease. The CART Fund by-laws require that 100% of all donated funds must go to Alzheimer’s Disease research.
In 1995, the Rotary Club of Sumter South Carolina (District 7770) started CART as a way of supporting research into a disease that was affecting club members, family and friends. Club members were encouraged to donate their “pocket/purse change” at each Rotary Club meeting. CART has now been adopted by all Rotary Clubs in South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina as well as a number of individual clubs throughout the United States. Assistance from the American Federation of Aging Research was invaluable in validating CART as a legitimate funding source for Alzheimer?s research.
The goal of the Fund is to encourage exploratory and developmental Alzheimer’s Disease research projects within the United States. This is accomplished by providing financial support for the early and conceptual plans of those projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. In 2018, CART was able to award five grants totaling $700,000 to support Alzheimer’s Disease research.
