Rotary Book Distribution

The Rotary Club of Tryon held their first Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) book distribution of 2023 at Polk Central Elementary School last week. Rotarians discussed the importance of reading, introduced students to new books, and then each student selected a book to take home as part of the RIF program.

Rotarian Amanda Thompson introduces Polk Central Elementary School students to a new book.

The RIF program was started at Polk Central Elementary in 2004 and schedules three visits to the school each year. The goal of the program is to help students improve their academic skills through an increased focus on the importance of reading.

Students can attend Polk Central Elementary for 7 years (PreK through 5th Grade) and receive 3 books each year. Over the time the students are enrolled, the Rotary Club of Tryon will provide 21 books for the student’s home library. The home libraries can be used to help the student’s younger siblings begin reading at home.

The Rotary Club of Tryon meets every Thursday at the Presbyterian Church in Tryon. If you are interested in learning more about the Rotary Club of Tryon and the work we are doing in the community, please contact the Rotary Club of Tryon President, Carol Browning, at or 864-580-1000.
