TFAC’s Carruth visits Rotary

The Rotary Club of Tryon was very fortunate to have Tryon Fine Arts Center’s Executive Director, Marianne Carruth, visit the Club last week. During her visit, Marianne told about the history of the the Fine Arts Center, the recent building upgrades, what programming is happening today, and finally what we can expect to see in the future.

TFAC’s Debra Torrence and Marianne Carruth with Rotary Club of Tryon President Carol Browning.

Marianne knew her audience would be interested in learning more about the Arts Center when she asked if there was anyone in the audience who had not been to TFAC. The only hand that went up was from the other visitor to the Rotary Club meeting that day.

Marianne explained TFAC was created in response to a bequest from Violet Parish-Watson, who wanted to create an auditorium and arts center in Tryon. The only stipulation, her bequest could only be received if at least 100 community members provided donations to match her contribution. She wanted TFAC to be a community center. Over fifty years later, TFAC is still serving the purpose of being a host for Art events in the community.
