Since 1985, Rotary International has been working to eradicate polio worldwide.? On October 24 (World Polio Day), the Interact Club of Polk County High School visited the Rotary Club of Tryon to continue raising funds to eradicate polio through the Purple Pinkie Project.? Rotarians gave a donation to have their pinkie fingernail painted purple — a first for many of the men in particular!?
The previous week the Interact Club offered this opportunity to join in the fight to end polio to their fellow students at Polk County High School.? Under the direction of their sponsor, Lori Connet, they have supported this fight for several years.?
Rotary works with the following organizations to make polio history:? World Health Organization, UNICEF, US Center for Disease Control; in the last few years, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have made huge donations to join in the final push to eradicate this disease from the face of the earth.? Rotarian Beth McCallister coordinated the visit with the Interact Club.
